exercising with varicocele

There is a really good blog on exercising with varicocele: Exercising with Varicocele. I highly recommend reading it. Yes exercising is a risk factor for varicocele. Many studies show that men who are more active are also at higher risk of developing higher grade varicoceles, as well as more symptoms and more severe symptoms.

Exercise type is also important! A study came out showing that men who play basketball are more likely to develop varicocele than those who play water polo. Yet another study showed a relationship between biking duration and varicocele symptoms and grade. There is also a relationship between elite athletes and varicocele. As well, another study linking long-distance running to varicocele.
Risk factors identified in scientific trails:
  1. Increased abdominal pressure
  2. Vertical loading (including weight bearing, and jumping)
  3. Increased oxidative stress
  4. Elevated scrotal temperatures
Therefore yes, exercising can be a risk for varicocele. Again, I highly recommend visiting the Varicocele Healing blog to learn how to manage it better. It’s very comprehensive.
